FAQ

1. How long does it take to set the mat up?

Less than 30 seconds. Just unroll it, and align the mat with either contact points or strike zone setup. The printed arrow and crossbar make alignment fast and repeatable.

2. How do I setup the mat for strike-zone training?

Simply lay the mat horizontal directly in front of the plate. If you do not have a home plate, just lay the mat horizontally where the home plate would be and you can use the 5-balls as your strike zone.

3. How do I setup the mat to train contact points?

Rotate the mat so the arrow points straight down. This creates about a 12" depth difference from inside to outside pitches, helping hitters train realistic contact points across the zone.

4. How do I know where to stand as a hitter relative to the mat?

Align your front foot with the middle ball (Ball 3) — that represents a middle pitch hit out in front. Adjust slightly forward or back based on the intent and individual hitter.

5. Do I need a home plate to use the mat?

No. The mat works on its own as a strike zone reference. If you prefer, you can place a plate slightly behind it for added context.

6. How can I use the mat for strike-zone training?

Each ball represents a different zone of the plate. The middle three span 13" — ideal for training your damage zone in leverage counts. The full 5-ball spread covers 23", extending one ball off each corner to reflect what’s often called a strike at the high school level and below. Train to hunt the middle early and stay effective with two strikes.

7. How can I use the mat for contact point training?

The 5 balls give hitters a clear visual cue for where contact should happen. Ask a hitter to make contact at a specific ball (e.g., Ball 2 or Ball 4), and they’ll begin to connect swing intention with location. It’s a simple way to build awareness and improve contact quality.

8. Is there any purpose behind how the balls are spaced?

Yes — the zones are spaced intentionally. The outer balls train borderline pitch awareness, while the middle balls represent "smash zone" pitches. The spacing supports better contact and swing planning.

9. How accurate is the depth spacing?

The mat is designed for ~12" depth between inside and outside pitches. Most setups fall between 11–13 inches, which is well within the target range for effective training.

10. Can this mat be used for all ages?

Yes — it’s built for hitters from youth to high school, but college-level hitters also use it to refine contact points and swing decisions.

11. What surfaces can I use it on?

The mat works great on turf, dirt, grass, concrete, and gym floors. It’s water-resistant and can handle outdoor use, but should be stored indoors when not in use to prolong lifespan.

12. Does it work for left-handed hitters?

Yes — simply rotate the mat in the opposite direction. The inside pitch will be ball 5 for a left handed hitter.

13. Do I need a tee or net to use it?

It’s compatible with tee work, front toss, live BP. Check out our free drill library to get inspiration on drills you can use your mat with.

14. Is this just for individual use, or can teams use it too?

Both. The mat is portable and durable enough for team stations, small group work, and competitive drills. It’s already being used in high school and travel programs.
